Crime

As Attorney General, John would be California’s Chief Law Enforcement Officer, sometime known as the “Top Cop.” John believes there is no more fundamental right that government should protect than the right to life and personal safety.

To John that means that the rights of law-abiding citizens, and the rights of victims of crime, should be held above those of criminals.

John will support and vigorously enforce California’s “Three Strikes, You’re Out” law to put repeat, violent offenders behind bars for a long time.  He also strongly supports Jessica’s Law to keep repeat child molesters away from our children, and Marcy’s Law to give enhanced rights to crime victims when considering sentencing and parole for criminals.

As Dean of Chapman University Law School, John was asked by California’s District Attorneys to create the first advanced law degree program for prosecutors in the country.

John also believes that law-abiding citizens have a constitutional right to self-protection, including if they choose, to own a firearm for that purpose, and he has participated in landmark litigation before the Supreme Court of the United States seeking to guarantee Second Amendment rights.
